Day of Prayer
In the light of the Covid-19 pandemic the Moderator has called the members and adherents of the RPCI, and whomever wishes to join us, to set apart Thursday 2nd April as a denominational Day of Prayer and Fasting for the state of the Church, the Nation and the World.
Let us consider our own hearts and our relationship with God, humble ourselves and confess our own sin.
Let us consider the sins of the nation in all their forms and confess these—from covenant breaking, to worshipping the created rather than the Creator, to legislating contrary to God’s commands. And let us call on God to turn the hearts of the leaders and the people towards him:
“May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us nor forsake us. May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in obedience to him and keep the commands, decrees and laws he gave our ancestors.” 1 Kings 8:58
Let us consider how we should pray for all aspects of society in light of this pandemic—for those sick and ill, those involved in treating them and keeping hospitals and medical practices running, those involved in keeping essential services running (farmers, shop-keepers, hauliers), those in government, the vulnerable and afraid, the elderly in nursing homes or isolated in their own homes, children in their fears and frustrations, families with their exacerbated pressures, the anxious and despairing, etc
Let us give ourselves to urgent, persistent and faith-filled prayer—worshipping, confessing, asking, and giving thanks—for “who knows? [The Lord] may turn and relent and leave behind a blessing.” (Joel 2:24)
